'Like Madden!' Seahawks' Grubb 'A Scientist,' Says Huskies WR

The Seattle Seahawks could have an abundance of local talent to choose from in the 2024 NFL Draft thanks to the heavy presence of some star-studded Washington Huskies.

Seattle added a member of this past season's UW squad to its coaching staff with the hiring of Ryan Grubb as offensive coordinator, who helped spearhead what was arguably the best offense in college football last year for the national runner-ups.

The surgical-like offensive unit that was led by quarterback Michael Penix Jr. along with a trio of NFL-ready receivers highlighted by Rome Odunze. However, one of Grubb's former standout pass-catchers made sure to give the offensive coordinator some much-deserved credit.

Former Huskies receiver Ja'Lynn Polk spoke at the NFL Combine on Friday and had some interesting insight when describing Grubb.

"Ryan Grubb, man. A scientist as I call it," Polk said, per The Seattle Times. "He gets out there and gets in that suite, gets in that booth, it's like he's out there playing Madden."

"Everything that he's getting, all the success that he's about to have down the road and that he's had up to this moment, he deserves it. He tries to be different than any other coach.

Polk, who began his career at Texas Tech in 2020, finally had his breakout year this past season. He finished with a career-high in catches (69), yards (1,159) and touchdowns (nine). A native of Lufkin, Texas finished with five grabs for 122 yards and one touchdown in the College Football Playoff semifinal against Texas.

While his talent as a receiver isn't in question, it's possible Polk wouldn't have been able to show off his NFL-ready skills to the best of his ability if not for Grubb. But the numbers show that the second year in his system did wonders for Polk's draft stock.

Could the two link back up in Seattle? We'll have to wait for when the 2024 NFL Draft begins on April 25 to find out.
