Tracy Morgan fires hilarious Knicks warning to Draymond Green

During Game 5 as the New York Knicks beat the Indiana Pacers, 121-91, there was a funny interaction on the TNT broadcast where Chris Haynes talked to legendary comedian Tracy Morgan about the game. The actor who is known to be a Knicks fan would use his time to address Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green who was on the broadcast and issued some words to the player as he called New York a “fluke.”

“Let me tell you something, Draymond, I love you like kung fu. I love you like the fat kid loves cake,” Morgan said to the camera at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday night. “Don’t talk crap about my team. This is New York City kid, this is the home of King Kong, this is where he died, this is how we get down, this is New York City. Period. Don’t talk crap about my team Draymond. I love you. Peace.”

Since Morgan did not have an ear piece with him, he could not hear when Green tried to talk to him which prevented probably more hilarious moments. What transpired after was the Knicks taking back control of the series as they beat the Pacers to take a 3-2 lead.

Green’s history with calling the Knicks a “fluke”

As said before, Green has on multiple occasions called out the current iteration of New York for being a “fluke” team that will hit a wall after a likely conference finals appearance this season. On his own podcast called “The Draymond Green Show” on May 9, he compared them to the Atlanta Hawks when they made the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021 and never came close to coming back.

“In the Eastern Conference, you can get to the conference finals, a la the Atlanta Hawks, by playing like very ‘mid’ teams, so that’s what you all are doing right now,” Green said. “And I think what this is setting y’all up for is what happened to the Atlanta Hawks three years ago when they made the conference finals, and they never got back.”

Green uses another example as to why New York will be jammed

He would mention another example, one that he experienced in some ways from a far being in the same conference on the Portland Trail Blazers. Green also cited that when they made the conference finals and lost to the Warriors, they made all these acquisitions only for them to never get back, saying that the Knicks are being set up for the same fate.

“Another team that did this just to give you perspective was the Portland Trail Blazers years ago when they had Al-Farouq Aminu and Allen Crabbe, all those guys went to the conference finals and we swept them pretty much without Stephen Curry,” Green said. “Then Portland ran off and paid all of those guys because they thought they had a team that had a chance and it was a fluke and that is what the Knicks are setting y’all up for. It’ll probably be another 15 years of misery and we’ll all sit around at laugh at Knicks fans with their delusion because that’s just what happens.”

Green doubles down on TNT broadcast about feelings on New York

Later, when Green was on the TNT broadcast, he would poke fun at Knicks fans asking in a likely sarcastic way why they don’t like him. He would say right after that he “told the truth” about New York, doubling down that they are in fact a “fluke.”

“Why do Knicks fans think I hate the Knicks though? I told the truth about the team. And the truth about the team is, it’s a fluke,” Green said. “I said this team, they are winning right now, I think it’s a set up like the Atlanta Hawks in 2021 and if you remember back to maybe 2016-17, the Portland Trail Blazers payed all of those guys because they had that one good year and then they got jammed up and I think this New York Knicks team is a setup to get jammed up.”

Jalen Brunson bounces back with huge performance

While it remains to be seen what happens to the Knicks and their future, fans and the team are more focused on the task at hand and it is knocking off the Pacers and reaching their first conference finals since 2000. Game 5 was a much needed win as they lost two straight on the road and star Jalen Brunson was coming off an inefficient night.

Brunson came back with a purpose as he scored 44 points while recording seven assists and collecting four rebounds as he came back to being the player that arguably makes him the best star left in the conference. Even though the 27-year old has got a lot of attention these past few seasons, even Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau says there should be more coverage according to Dan Devine of Yahoo Sports.

“As much as you talk about him — and you talk about him a lot, and rightfully so — it’s not enough,” Thibodeau said of Brunson.

“We’ve all come to expect him to almost be superhuman every night,” Thibodeau continued. “You know, he’s an incredible player. He’s loaded up on every night. He’s the focal point of everyone’s game plan. … He’s like a machine. Every day, he comes in, locked in, this is what he’s going to do. He’ll be ready for the next game, be ready for the next game…You always have confidence that he’s going to bounce back,” Thibodeau said.

Knicks can close out with Game 6 on Indiana’s home floor

While the two games prior for New York were frustrating on both sides of the ball, they did not let it impact their play in Game 5 as they came out way more determined and that doesn’t just fall on Brunson’s shoulders. The Villanova product would say after the game that while he is impressed, he is already focused on Game 6.

“One thing that I’ve learned in the playoffs is that one game does not have any effect on the next,” Brunson said via Yahoo Sports. “So, no matter what the situation is — whether you lose by one, or you lose by 30 — it has nothing to do with the next game. So honestly, once we leave you here tonight, this is over with. It’s all about: How do we prepare for Game 6?”

With how the series has shaped up, every team has won on their home floor, but New York looks to change that narrative as they head into Game 6 in Indiana and close out the series. Game 6 will take place on Friday with a time yet to be determined.
