Jets Urged To Sign Former Pro Bowl Playmaker For Aaron Rodgers
Chris Pedota, NorthJersey.com / USA TODAY NETWORK

The New York Jets have been busy this offseason, as they are going all in on 2024 with Aaron Rodgers.

The Jets have addressed almost every area over the last couple of months, adding more weapons, patching up the offensive line and buttressing what was already an impressive defense.

But Bleacher Report’s NFL Scouting Department still feels they can do a bit more.

In an article where the Bleacher Report team cited each team’s biggest needs after the NFL Draft, the wide receiver position was mentioned as a need for New York.

The Jets have done some work at wide out this offseason, signing Mike Williams in free agency and drafting Malachi Corley in the third round.

However, Williams is coming off of a torn ACL, and Corley is obviously entirely unproven. So, it would make some sense for Gang Green to add some depth at receiver.

That’s why Bleacher Report suggests that the Jets sign Hunter Renfrow.

Renfrow is arguably the top wide receiver still remaining on the open market, although that is not exactly saying much given how bare the cupboard has gotten.

Still, there was a time when Renfrow appeared to be on his way to becoming one of the most prolific pass-catchers in the NFL.

Back in 2021, the 28-year-old hauled in 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns with the Las Vegas Raiders, earning himself a trip to the Pro Bowl.

Renfrow, who played his collegiate football at Clemson, was selected by the Raiders in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.

He enjoyed a couple of strong seasons to begin his career, catching 49 passes for 605 yards and four scores during his rookie campaign and following that up by snaring 56 balls for 656 yards while reaching the end zone twice in his sophomore year.

Renfrow then broke out with that Pro Bowl campaign in Year 3, but in 2022, injuries limited him to just 10 games, and he registered 36 catches for 330 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Then, last season, the Myrtle Beach, S.C. native completely fell out of favor in Las Vegas, finishing with only 25 catches for 255 yards.

Surely, Renfrow belongs on an NFL roster, as he is a sure-handed target who could represent a solid security blanket on short throws.

Perhaps the Jets can bring him in as another potential weapon for Aaron Rodgers in 2024.
